West Hancock won its second straight Illinois Class 2A volleyball regional championship with a 25-20, 25-14 victory over Illini West Saturday afternoon at Rushville.
Marley Hall led the top-seeded Titans (23-11) with eight kills and four blocks, while Caitlin Shoup added seven kills. Alayna Diveney finished with five digs and Jacey Hartweg had eight assists.
Raina Little led the No. 3 Chargers (18-18) with eight kills, while Jessica Siverly had 11 digs and Kelly Ard added 15 assists.
West Hancock will meet Springfield Lutheran (31-5) at 6 p.m. Tuesday in a sectional semifinal at Beardstown.
PREP CROSS COUNTRY
Class 1 Fayette District: The Marion County boys and girls cross country teams both qualified for next weekend's state meet with high finishes. The Marion County girls won the district title, while the boys team was second.
Randi Lee Plunkett finished the 5-kilometer race in 22 minutes, 26 seconds to lead the Mustangs. Kayla Bridgman was third (22:39), while Morgan Spratt was fifth (23:11).
Nathan Wikowsky (19:04, fifth) and Dustin Bock (19:34, seventh) each turned in top-10 finishes for Marion County.
Class 1A Elmwood Sectional: No area runners advanced to the state meet. The Quincy Notre Dame girls team finished 11th, while the Liberty finishd 12th in the team standings. In the boys' race, QND finished 10th, while Liberty was 12th.
WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL
Bellarmine d. QU: The Lady Hawks made 24 attack errors which led to a 27-25, 25-15, 25-16 Great Lakes Valley Conference loss at Louisville, Ky.
Lyndsay Kooi led QU (6-19, 3-8) with seven digs and 17 assists.
C-SC finishes second: The Lady Wildcats defeated Virginia Wesleyan 25-16, 25-20, 25-21 to go 2-1 at the Washington University Invitational in St. Louis.
Kayla Duncan led C-SC (13-24) with 12 kills and 16 digs, while Catie Shue added 11 kills. Kallie Sinkus finished with 13 digs and Ashlie Turza added six blocks.
WOMEN'S SOCCER
HLG 4, William Woods 1: Leslie Gordon scored two goals to lead the Lady Trojans to an American Midwest Conference victory at home.
Fernanda Miacci and Jasman Edmond scored the other goals for HLG (6-8-1) and both recorded an assist. The Lady Trojans outshot the Owls 23-8.
