WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
JWCC 60, Lake Land 52: The Lady Blazers opened their season with a win at Mattoon, Ill.
It's the first time JWCC has ever beaten Lake Land in Mattoon.
"It was scary to play a season opener at a place you've never won before," Lady Blazers coach Norm Rodriguez said. "It's good to win your season opener, no matter who you're playing, but to beat them makes it nice. They're not a bad team."
JWCC took the lead early in the lead and except for a tie late in the first half, never trailed. Alyssa Duffy led the Lady Blazers with 21 points, 13 of those in the second half.
JWCC hosts the Shottenkirk Shootout this weekend, starting with a game against Kishwaukee at 8 p.m. Saturday.
