Mr. and Mrs. Don Allen Reid of Birmingham, Ala., have announced the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Adrienne Nanette Reid, to James Jason Whitehurst Jr. He is a son of Mrs. Vera Marie (Brent) Gilliland of Quincy and James Dean Whitehurst of Martinsville, Ind.

The bride-elect graduated cum laude with a bachelor of arts degree in theatre from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She is the Birmingham market coordinator for Marriott International.

The prospective bridegroom graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in comprehensive technical theatre with an emphasis in stage management from Western Illinois University. He is the general manager for the Rime Garden Inn and Suites in Irondale, Ala.

The couple will be married in a private ceremony Oct. 17 on the beach in Destin, Fla.
