A Brown County coroner's jury ruled Monday that the death of a Mount Sterling woman last November was a homicide.

Kathy Blentlinger, 34, was found dead inside her 202 South Street residence Nov. 9 after an early morning fire. An investigator with the Illinois State Fire Marshals office told the coroner's jury Blentlinger's residence was burned down by arson, started by gasoline spilled on a rear porch area.

Blentlinger died of smoke inhalation. The coroner's jury took only 10 minutes to reach a verdict.

Members of the Blentlinger family were at the hearing. The mother of a young son, Blentlinger was taking classes to become a medical assistant, family members said.

The Illinois State Police is investigating the case. No arrests have been made.
