Schuckman: List fills up with things to do

What would be on your bucket list?

That question became a topic of conversation last week after watching the movie "The Bucket List," where terminally ill patients played by Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman make a list of things they want to do before they kick the bucket.

Some were laughable, like getting tattoos. Some were outrageous, like skydiving. And some were ambiguous, like the desire to see something majestic.

All in all, it made you think: What do I want to do before I die?

Here are some things that would end up on my list ...

* Spend an afternoon fishing with Whitey Herzog. Could it get much better than reeling in largemouths and talking baseball? Only if Jack Buck was still around to join us.

* Visit every major league baseball stadium. I'll regret the fact I never was able to visit the "House that Ruth built," but it would be a travesty to let other stadiums crumble without having seen a game from the bleachers.

* Stare down a moose on an Alaskan hunt. No big game is more majestic, and I wonder how nervous I would get with the opportunity to take down a 1,200-pound beast.

* Celebrate the University of Missouri winning a national championship -- in any sport, but preferably football.

* Catch a game from the seats atop the Green Monster. No major league stadium is more intriguing than Fenway Park and no seat could offer a better view of the game -- not even the Wrigley Field bleachers.

* Take my dad and my brothers on a duck and goose hunting trip to Canada. It's a trip that could produce stories we'll tell for decades to come.

* Serve as the bullpen catcher for the St. Louis Cardinals. Could there be a better job? No worries and no pressure, yet you get to be a part of the major league experience every single day.

* Play catch with Nolan Ryan. Awed by the fact he struck out more than 5,000 batters and threw seven no-hitters, he became my favorite pitcher growing up. I want to know how fast the Ryan Express truly feels.

* See Tiger Woods play in person. Since Woods is arguably the greatest golfer ever, it would be a shame for his career to come and go and never experience how awe-inspiring his game truly is.

* Spend a week camped out in the parking lot at Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Neb., during the College World Series. Imagine the personalties you'd meet and the quality baseball you'd see.

* Take a seat at the World Series of Poker Main Event. I want Daniel Negreanu and Mike "The Mouth" Matusow at my table to keep me entertained and a couple of blasters to keep the chips moving.

Hopefully, I have plenty of time to get them all done.
