Muddy Water Blues Society thankful for help

To The Herald-Whig:

The Mid Mississippi Muddy Water Blues Society would like to thank Mark Mester and Chris Stevens of Turner Hall for providing their hall and sound system for our first annual "Can Jam."

The purpose of the "Can Jam" was to help the Madonna House replenish some of their food pantry and a way for the Blues Society to give back to the community. We would also like to thank all the bands -- Blue Healers, Fielder, Ben Bumbry and the Messengers, Antidote, and the Classics, who put their hearts and souls into their fantastic performances. Another big thank you to all the volunteers who helped, it was very much appreciated. Also we would like to thank everyone who participated at our event and to Hy-Vee, County Market, Butcher Block and the Business Centre for their help.

With everybody coming together to help us reach our goal of helping the community, this was a success! The Madonna House was very pleased to receive about 1,500 pounds of non-perishable food items and $500 cash from the event.

Barb Hicks from the Madonna House said this amount will only help them for about two weeks, allowing each needy family a few days of groceries at a time and that many families are turned away because of the food shortages.

The Mid Mississippi Muddy Water Blues Society has helped other community organizations such as Camp Callahan, the Firemen's Cam, Blues in the Schools and many others with more to come.

Please help support the Mid Mississippi Muddy Water Blues Society by attending our next family event which is the upcoming Quincy Area Blues Fest July 18-19.

Anniversary thanks

To The Herald-Whig:

Thanks to family and friends for making our 50th wedding anniversary so special and a day we'll long remember.

We appreciated all who attended our open house, the cards, notes, phone calls, gifts and personal greetings. A special thanks to Jodi and Brian and the willing workers who made the day go smoothly.

May God bless you as he has blessed us.
