Quincy hotel makes good on two months of late city taxes

The Country Inn and Suites has paid its January and February hotel-motel taxes, but it has yet to pay for March, April and May. June's payment is due July 31.

Mike Hill, a managing member of Quincy Hotels LLC, which owns and operates the hotel on North 54th Street, told The Herald-Whig on May 23 that the hotel was financially stable. He also said the hotel expected to pay the back taxes within a week.

City Treasurer Peggy Crim said Thursday that the hotel was current on its hotel-motel tax through February 2008.

Hill previously said the hotel had not paid its hotel-motel tax because of problems with its computer system.

The tax is 8 percent of total monthly receipts. The penalty for failure to pay the tax is 5 percent of the amount due each month, A 2 percent interest charge per month is also added.

Hill did not return telephone messages to The Herald-Whig.
