James and Ada Bowen
Celebrating 65 years of marriage (June 10, 1943)
Mr. and Mrs. James Bowen of 1715 N. Granview Drive will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary with a dance and food from 7 to 11 p.m. June 28 in the Eagles Club. The event will be hosted by their children and spouses. Family and friends are invited; they request no gifts.
Mr. Bowen is also celebrating his 83rd birthday.
Mr. Bowen and the former Ada Powell were married in a double wedding with her twin sister, Eva, and the late Clyde Bunch on June 10, 1943.
Mrs. Bowen is a daughter of the late John and Ethel Powell. Mr. Bowen is a son of the late Tim and Lois Bowen.
They are the parents of Sharon Gilbert, Mike Bowen and Vickie Gillihan, all of Quincy. They have five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mr. Bowen drove a school bus for 23 years and was a substitute driver for Liberty School. He retired as foreman of the foundry at Quincy and LaGrange, Mo., for Cooper Industries/Gardner Denver Co. after 38 years. He also farmed and continues to raise trotter and pacer horses, which he races at county fairs from June to September. He is a member and past president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Mrs. Bowen worked at Motorola for 17 years and was a member of the Liberty Unit of the Adams County Homemakers Extension Association.
The Bowens are members of First Christian Church in Liberty. They have lived in Quincy for the past 15 years after selling their farm in Liberty, where Mr. Bowen farmed for 24 years.
