Solid line-up after rocky start
Metal/hardcore band Infliction of Need is set to play at Music @ the Mall's 5th of July Spectacular with other local acts Guraja, The Signal, Circadia and This Means War at 6 p.m. on Saturday at 300 Main St., Keokuk, Iowa.
Infliction of Need began forming in 2002 with guitarists Ben Robinson and Josh Sullivan. They just wrote music for a few years until drummer Sam Lutteneggar joined in late 2005. Lutteneggar brought bass player Jedidiah Burkhart with him and Tristan Cain joined as lead vocalist.
Unfortunately the line-up continued to change with Cain leaving soon after the first show. When Josh Welch and Terry Belcher showed up to try out for lead vocals they ended up working so well together that they both joined. After Lutteneggar, Burkhart and Belcher left, drummer Royce Kurth joined Infliction of Need.
Tired of playing shows without a bass player, they tried out Cody Haigh and finally felt as though they had a solid line-up. Now a mix of metal and hardcore music, everyone contributes to song writing.
The band's bumpy ride thus far hasn't squelched their love for music. "We'll play pretty much any show, anywhere. We don't play for money, considering we don't make any; we play for the love of playing."
Long-term goals include -- like any other band -- to get a record deal. They are currently recording their first full-length album. A release date is not yet set, but they say "hopefully sooner than later, but we are taking our time and making sure we get it right."
