Official says trailer fire Friday south of Quincy doesn't appear to be 'suspicious'

Tri-Township Fire Protection District firefighters say a mobile home in the Hultz's Expressway Mobile Home Park was damaged by fire Friday afternoon.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but "it does not appear to be suspicious. It appears to accidental," Assistant Chief Darren Smith said.

The trailer at 4331 Michael Street, located in the 12th Street and Ill. 57 trailer park, suffered major damage to a back bedroom and bathroom and smoke and heat damage throughout.

Tri-Township firefighters were dispatched at 2:30 p.m. and found fire and heavy smoke coming from the rear bedroom of the trailer. The fire was "under control within 3-4 minutes," Smith said, but firefighters were at the scene for three hours.

There were no injuries, but Debra Sheppard and her two teenage children were displaced by the fire. The Adams County Chapter of the American Red Cross is providing assistance to the family.

Question:
Superintendent Lonny Lemon said the idea of disbanding the Building, Finance, Curriculum and Policy committees was being done on a short-term basis so the district could meet deadlines for proposed life-safety projects. He expects the traditional committee system to be restored early next year. Was the disbanding of the committees a good idea?
