Game-winning home run caps Brown County rally

Brown County rallied from a five-run deficit after six inning to beat Unity 10-9 in an eight-inning Class 1A regional semifinal game at Colchester.

Nathan Goudschaal hit the game-winning homer in the eighth for the Hornets, who trailed 9-4 entering the seventh. Corey Spurgeon and Grant DeWitt both homered in Brown County's five-run seventh.

Caleb Arnsman hit a three-run home run earlier in the game for Unity, while Karl Peter went 2 for 3 with a triple.

Brown County will play West Prairie for the regional championship on Saturday.

Illini West 10, Central-Southeastern 0: The Chargers took advantage of seven hits to score six runs in the first inning of their Class 2A regional semifinal victory at Macomb.

Ross Hutson's two-run single with the bases loaded was the key hit of the inning. Cole Thompson had three hits, while Matt Kissinger, Derek Van Fleet, Hutson and Zach Burling all had two hits apiece.

Luke Burling went the distance for Illini West, striking out eight batters and walking. The only hit he allowed was a one-out single to Garrett Janssen in the sixth inning.

Markus Vonholt took the loss for the Suns.

Illini West (19-7) will play Macomb for the regional championship at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Carrollton 8, South Shelby 1: The second-seeded Cardinals saw their season come to an end with a loss to the top-seeded team in the championship game of the Class 2 District 7 tournment at Westran.
